One in three people over the age of 65 fall every year. Falls in the elderly are a significant and growing health concern with the associated complications of possible fractures, limited mobility and loss of confidence.
Poor balance is one of the major factors contributing to falls. Strength and coordination in the core, upper and lower limbs also contribute to one’s ability to recover balance in the event of falling.
The Balance Class integrates the basic ‘Key Moves’® principles and specifically targets these areas of:
- Core strength
- Upper and lower limb coordination – to limit the fall incidence rate.
A dedicated assessment by the class instructor, Micky Yim is performed before and after the 10 week class period. The specific outcome measures give us an idea of the overall falls risk of each participant before and after the exercise period.
